Pete…They look good but are too clean. THey would be even better with a Q6 or a J27 up front.

Check out a recent Irwell Press book ”The Steaming 60’s.A North Eastern Redoubt” for really weather beaten 21 ton hoppers. The locos are even worse for wear. Would be a challenge for anyone into weathering. Anyone else got this literary gem. Oh! It is based on railway mecca, namely , Tyne Dock in 66-67 era.

It is 56! and the coal in the Midland is cleaner!

    I was 5 then.

You have a head start on me. You older guys were very lucky for steam in the 50’s. But I did get on the footplate of 92099 on the last train from Alnmouth to Alnwick 18/6/66 so I cannot complain.

On a prototypical note and curiosity I am sure 21t hoppers went futher than the North Eastern region. Did you get them on your area?

  4. pete Says:

Oh yea we had them they soon got all over the place. They also were used from Banbury to West Brom on the iorn ores.
